Client profile
Kawaii Corner is easily one of the trendiest stores in Lynnhaven Mall. Their Japanese socks and stuffed animals combined with K-pop merch attract a young, trendsetting crowd.
The Challenge
Before Kawaii Corner’s grand opening at Lynnhaven Mall, they wanted to renovate their small storefront. The aim was to make the space appear more roomy and inviting for their ideal shoppers.
Searching for a contractor
Kawaii Corner never searched for a contractor. Instead, OneSpace Design Studio, the architect they used for the project, brought us in because we are a preferred contractor of the mall.
Large Scope, Tight Budget
The necessary work was quite large in scope and included framing a new wall, creating a back room, improving lighting, and creating custom cabinets. Essentially, they were trying to maximize a store with small square footage. However, they also had a tight budget and seven- to eight-week turnaround time. We worked with Kawaii Corner to create a more spacious storefront within their budget and ideal timeline.
The Surprise Conduit
When we opened up the existing wall, we weren’t expecting a conduit to run into concrete at that section. Despite the tight eight-week turnaround, we were able to navigate and fix the challenge without deviating from Kawaii’ desired result.
Moving Sprinklers
When improving the lighting, our team wanted to avoid moving the sprinkler heads. However, during the permit application process, the city requested we move the sprinklers while renovating the space. For many contractors, this extra task would prolong the project. For our team, it was another challenge to address quickly and efficiently.
By the time we finished the project, Kawaii Corner was ready for their grand opening, as scheduled. The line to enter their store was halfway around the mall and customers loved the new, expanded space and amazing products in the store.
